1st Pondicherry Representative Assembly
The 1st Pondicherry Representative Assembly, established in 1963, was the inaugural legislative body of the Union Territory of Puducherry, India. Created under the provisions of the Puducherry Legislative Assembly Act, the assembly marked a significant step towards self-governance and democratic representation for the residents of Puducherry, a former French colony. Comprising elected representatives from various constituencies, the assembly was tasked with addressing local governance issues and enacting legislation pertinent to the region. The formation of the assembly was part of broader political reforms aimed at enhancing local administration and political participation in the post-colonial context of India, reflecting the aspirations of the people for greater autonomy and representation.
