2013 Delhi Legislative Assembly election

The 2013 Delhi Legislative Assembly election was held on December 4, 2013, to elect the 70 members of the Sixth Legislative Assembly of the National Capital Territory of Delhi. This election was notable for the emergence of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which contested under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal and aimed to challenge the traditional dominance of the Indian National Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The election resulted in a hung assembly, with AAP winning 28 seats, Congress securing 8 seats, and BJP obtaining 31 seats. However, AAP formed the government with the external support of Congress, marking a significant shift in the political landscape of Delhi. The election underscored issues of corruption, governance, and transparency, reflecting a growing public discontent with established political parties.
