2005 Jharkhand Legislative Assembly election

The 2005 Jharkhand Legislative Assembly election was held in two phases on November 30 and December 4, 2005, to elect the 81 members of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly in India. This election marked the first legislative assembly elections in Jharkhand since its formation as a separate state in November 2000. The main political contest was between the Indian National Congress (INC), the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), and regional parties such as the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD). Voter turnout was recorded at approximately 57.5%. The BJP emerged as the dominant party, forming a coalition government led by Arjun Munda, which was significant for reshaping the political landscape of Jharkhand.
