1st Bengal European Light Cavalry

The 1st Bengal European Light Cavalry was a cavalry regiment of the British Indian Army, established in the early 19th century. Originating in 1846, the regiment was formed predominantly from European volunteers and was stationed in the Bengal Presidency, India. Renowned for its mobility and versatility, the regiment played a significant role in numerous campaigns throughout the Indian subcontinent, including the Second Anglo-Sikh War and the Indian Rebellion of 1857. It was distinguished by its light cavalry tactics, adapting to the diverse terrains of India. The 1st Bengal European Light Cavalry was disbanded in 1871, but it remains a notable example of the imperial military organization that shaped colonial India.
