1993 Bombay bombings

The 1993 Bombay bombings were a series of coordinated bomb attacks that occurred in Mumbai (then Bombay), India, on March 12, 1993. Orchestrated by organized crime syndicate leader Dawood Ibrahim and his associates, the bombings resulted in the deaths of 257 individuals and injuries to over 1,400 others, marking one of the deadliest terrorist attacks in Indian history. The attacks targeted key locations across the city, including the Bombay Stock Exchange and various public and commercial buildings, intending to wreak havoc and instill fear. The bombings were a response to communal tensions and preceded by the December 1992 riots following the Babri Masjid demolition. The aftermath led to a crackdown on terrorism and significant legal and political repercussions in India.
