1992 India–Pakistan floods

The 1992 India–Pakistan floods were a catastrophic series of flooding events that primarily affected the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, and parts of western Uttar Pradesh between July and August 1992. Triggered by heavy monsoon rains, the floods resulted in the overflow of major rivers, displacing millions and causing extensive damage to infrastructure and agriculture. Over 4,000 lives were lost, and approximately 20 million people were affected, with significant economic implications. The Government of India and various NGOs mobilized relief efforts, although logistical challenges hampered assistance. The disaster highlighted the vulnerabilities of regions to monsoon patterns and prompted discussions on disaster management and climate resilience in South Asia.
