1991 Census of India

The 1991 Census of India, conducted from February 9 to March 11, 1991, marked the sixth national census since India's independence in 1947 and was the first to be conducted after the economic liberalization in 1991. Overseen by the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, the census aimed to provide comprehensive demographic, social, and economic data for the country. It recorded a population of approximately 846.39 million, reflecting a growth rate of 23.8% since the previous census in 1981. The 1991 Census introduced several new features, including improved methods for data collection and analysis, and provided a crucial baseline for future development planning and policy formulation in India.
