1990 Hyderabad riots

The 1990 Hyderabad riots were a series of violent communal clashes that occurred in Hyderabad, India, primarily between the Muslim and Hindu communities. Triggered by political tensions, social grievances, and religious provocations, the riots erupted on December 6, 1990, following the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya, an event that incited widespread unrest across the country. The violence resulted in significant loss of life and property, with estimates suggesting that more than 300 individuals were killed and numerous others injured. The riots highlighted underlying social rifts and led to increased communal polarization in the region. The state government implemented curfews and deployed security forces to restore order. The aftermath raised concerns about communal harmony and the role of political actors in exacerbating tensions.
