1988 Punjab floods

The 1988 Punjab floods were one of the most devastating natural disasters to affect the Punjab province of Pakistan, occurring primarily in July and August of that year. Triggered by heavy monsoon rains, the floods resulted in the overflow of the Sutlej and Beas rivers, inundating vast areas and displacing millions of residents. The disaster caused extensive damage to infrastructure, agriculture, and housing, leading to significant economic losses. Government and humanitarian organizations struggled to provide adequate relief and rescue operations amid the widespread devastation. The floods highlighted the region's vulnerability to climatic events and spurred discussions on improved flood management and disaster preparedness in Pakistan.
