1987–1989 JVP insurrection

The 1987–1989 JVp insurrection was a significant armed conflict in the Philippines, characterized by a series of uprisings led by the Justice and Valor Party (JVp), a dissident faction of the New People's Army (NPA). The insurrection arose from widespread discontent with the authoritarian regime of President Ferdinand Marcos and sought to address social, economic, and political injustices affecting marginalized communities. Over the course of two years, the conflict escalated, resulting in violent confrontations between JVp insurgents and government forces, as well as impacting civilian populations. The insurrection played a crucial role in shaping the political landscape leading up to the 1986 People Power Revolution, ultimately contributing to the ousting of Marcos and the restoration of democracy in the Philippines.
