1985 Gujarat Legislative Assembly election

The 1985 Gujarat Legislative Assembly election was held on December 2, 1985, to elect members of the 9th Legislative Assembly of Gujarat, India. This election was significant as it was the first after the 1982 elections, which had led to the dissolution of the assembly. The Indian National Congress, led by Madhavsinh Solanki, emerged as the dominant party, securing a substantial majority by winning 149 out of 182 seats. The election was marked by intense political campaigning and voter mobilization, reflecting shifting public sentiments. The BJP and other regional parties also participated but failed to make a significant impact. The election cemented Solanki's leadership and re-established Congress's influence in Gujarat politics for the next decade.
