1984 Goa, Daman and Diu Legislative Assembly election

The 1984 Goa, Daman and Diu Legislative Assembly election was held on 15 October 1984 to elect members to the 30 constituencies of the Legislative Assembly of Goa, Daman, and Diu. This election was significant as it marked the first electoral exercise in the region following the reorganization of the erstwhile Union Territory into a full-fledged state in India in 1987. The Indian National Congress, led by Chief Minister Pratapsingh Rane, emerged victorious, securing a majority and thereby continuing its rule. The election was characterized by key issues such as statehood, economic development, and regional identity, reflecting the political landscape of the time. Voter turnout was marked by active participation, indicative of the electorate's engagement with regional governance.
