The 1984 Asia Cup was the inaugural edition of the Asia Cup cricket tournament, held from April 6 to April 15, 1984, in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates. The tournament featured a limited-overs format, with participation from four teams: India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates. A round-robin format was adopted, followed by a final. India emerged as the champion, defeating Sri Lanka in the final, thereby securing the first-ever Asia Cup title. The tournament was marked by remarkable performances, notably from Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar and bowler Kapil Dev, and it laid the foundation for future editions, contributing significantly to the popularity of cricket in the Asian region.
