1969 East Pakistan mass uprising

The 1969 East Pakistan mass uprising was a significant social and political mobilization that occurred in East Pakistan, now Bangladesh, during the late 1960s. Triggered by widespread discontent over political repression, economic neglect, and ethnic marginalization by the central government in West Pakistan, the uprising reflected the growing aspirations of the Bengali population. Protests gained momentum following the imposition of martial law and the arrest of political leaders, leading to mass demonstrations, student activism, and a general strike. The upheaval culminated in the resignation of President Ayub Khan and the eventual transition to a more inclusive political environment, setting the stage for the later struggle for independence in 1971.
