1960 Kerala Legislative Assembly election

The 1960 Kerala Legislative Assembly election was a significant political event held on March 4, 1960, in the Indian state of Kerala. This election marked the second assembly election following the formation of Kerala as a separate state in 1956. The Indian National Congress emerged as the dominant party, securing a majority with 45 out of 126 seats. The Communist Party of India, which had been in power since the previous election, faced considerable setbacks, winning only 24 seats. The election reflected the ongoing political realignment in Kerala and underscored the changing dynamics between leftist and centrist political factions. V. V. Giri was elected as the Chief Minister after the election.
