1951–52 elections in India

The 1951–52 Indian general elections were the first national elections held in India following independence in 1947. Conducted in four phases from October 1951 to March 1952, these elections were pivotal in establishing a parliamentary democracy in the country. The elections were held to elect representatives to the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies, utilizing the newly framed electoral framework under the Representation of the People Act, 1950. The Indian National Congress, led by Jawaharlal Nehru, emerged as the dominant political party, securing a significant majority in the Lok Sabha. The elections marked a critical transition in Indian politics, fostering the development of party systems and electoral processes in the nascent democracy.
