1951–52 Indian general election

The Indian general election of 1951–52 was the first national election held in independent India, taking place from October 25, 1951, to March 3, 1952. This landmark event established a democratic framework for the world's largest democracy, with the Election Commission overseeing the process. The elections were conducted to elect members of the Lok Sabha and State Legislative Assemblies across the nation. Approximately 173 million eligible voters participated, marking a significant milestone in India's political history. The Indian National Congress, led by Jawaharlal Nehru, emerged victorious, securing a dominant position in the Lok Sabha. The elections laid the foundation for subsequent democratic practices in India.
