18th King Edward's Own Cavalry

The 18th King Edward's Own Cavalry, formed in 1857, was a distinguished cavalry regiment of the British Indian Army, originally raised for service in India. Initially established as the 18th Cavalry to meet the military needs during the Indian Rebellion, the regiment earned a reputation for its effectiveness in various military campaigns throughout the Indian subcontinent. Notably, it participated in the Second Anglo-Afghan War and played a pivotal role during World War I. Renowned for its cavalry charge tactics and elite soldier training, the regiment was restructured in the post-war period and eventually amalgamated into the Indian Army post-1947, reflecting the significant changes in military organization during decolonization.
