17th/37th Lancers

The 17th/37th Lancers was a British Army cavalry regiment formed in 1921 through the amalgamation of the 17th Lancers (Duke of Cambridge's Own) and the 37th Lancers (Nizams). Originally established as separate units during the 19th century, the 17th Lancers saw considerable action during the Crimean War, while the 37th Lancers served predominantly in India. The regiment was distinguished by its traditional black uniforms and distinctive cap badge. Throughout its history, the 17th/37th Lancers participated in numerous campaigns, including both World Wars and later conflicts in the late 20th century, eventually becoming part of the Royal Armoured Corps in 1945. The regiment's legacy continues through its significant contributions to British military history and the culture of cavalry warfare.
