1781 revolt in Bihar

The 1781 revolt in Bihar, also known as the Bihar Rebellion of 1781, was a significant uprising against British colonial rule driven by agrarian discontent and economic exploitation. Responding to oppressive taxation and land revenue systems imposed by the British East India Company, local farmers and zamindars initiated widespread protests and armed resistance. The rebellion, marked by coordinated attacks on British officials and property, was predominantly led by figures such as Kunwar Singh, a prominent leader who mobilized support across various social strata. Despite initial successes, the revolt was ultimately suppressed by the British military. The uprising foreshadowed later anti-colonial movements in India and highlighted growing resentment toward British governance and economic policies in the region.
