16th Lok Sabha

The 16th Lok Sabha was the lower house of India's Parliament from June 2014 until May 2019. It was constituted following the general elections held in April–May 2014, in which the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) emerged as the dominant party, securing a clear majority with 282 out of 543 seats. The Lok Sabha is tasked with legislative functions, representing the electorate in parliamentary affairs, and addressing national issues. The Speaker of the 16th Lok Sabha was Sumitra Mahajan, marking her fourth consecutive term. This Lok Sabha is notable for the implementation of critical policies, including the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and initiatives aimed at economic reform and infrastructure development. It was dissolved following the general elections in 2019.
