15th Lok Sabha

The 15th Lok Sabha was the elected lower house of India's Parliament, serving from 2009 to 2014. It was constituted following the general elections held in April–May 2009, in which the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), led by the Indian National Congress, emerged victorious. The 15th Lok Sabha consisted of 544 members, including representatives from various political parties, independent candidates, and a reservation for scheduled castes and scheduled tribes. The Speaker of the Lok Sabha during this term was Meira Kumar, the first woman to hold the position. This Lok Sabha was characterized by significant legislative initiatives, debates on critical national issues, and the management of economic challenges, including inflation and the global financial crisis. It was dissolved in May 2014, paving the way for the 16th Lok Sabha.
