1983 Cricket World Cup

The 1983 Cricket World Cup, formally known as the Third Cricket World Cup, was a pivotal international cricket tournament held in England from June 9 to June 25, 1983. Organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC), it featured eight teams: England, India, West Indies, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand, and East Africa (a combined team of players from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia). India emerged as the tournament's champion, marking its first World Cup victory and redefining cricket's global landscape. The final, held at Lord's on June 25, saw India defeat the West Indies by 43 runs, ending the latter's streak of consecutive World Cup titles. The tournament is credited with increasing cricket's popularity particularly in India.
