1982 Nehru Cup

The 1982 Nehru Cup was the inaugural edition of an international football tournament held in India, named after Jawaharlal Nehru, the country's first Prime Minister. Organized by the All India Football Federation (AIFF), the tournament took place from 23 to 28 September 1982 in New Delhi. It featured four national teams: India, USSR, Brazil, and Argentina, each showcasing their football prowess. The event was part of India's efforts to promote football and enhance its international sports profile. The tournament concluded with the USSR emerging as champions, defeating Brazil in the final. The Nehru Cup has since become a significant fixture in Indian football, fostering international competition and sportsmanship.
