1975 Cricket World Cup

The 1975 Cricket World Cup, officially known as the first ICC Cricket World Cup, was a landmark international cricket tournament held in England from June 7 to June 21, 1975. Organized by the International Cricket Council (ICC), this inaugural edition featured eight participating teams: England, the West Indies, Pakistan, India, Australia, Sri Lanka, East Africa, and Zimbabwe. Matches were played in a traditional 60-over format, with each team batting for a maximum of 60 overs. The tournament culminated in the final at Lord's, where the West Indies triumphed over Australia by 17 runs, securing their first World Cup title. The event significantly contributed to the global promotion of cricket and established the World Cup as a prestigious fixture in the sport's calendar.
