1972 Rajya Sabha elections

The 1972 Rajya Sabha elections were held in India between March 1972 and April 1972 to elect members to the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of Parliament. These elections were significant as they marked a period of political consolidation following the Emergency imposed in 1975. The elections were conducted in several phases, with members being elected by the elected members of State Legislative Assemblies, as per the system of proportional representation through a single transferable vote. A total of 62 seats were contested, and the results reflected the prevailing political dynamics, with the Indian National Congress securing a dominant position. The elections underscored the shifting political landscape in post-independence India.
