1972 Bihar Legislative Assembly election

The 1972 Bihar Legislative Assembly election was held in two phases on January 28 and February 4, 1972, to elect members of the 7th Bihar Legislative Assembly. This election was significant as it followed the imposition of President's Rule in Bihar, which had disrupted political stability in the state. The Indian National Congress, led by Chief Minister Siddharth Shankar Ray, aimed to consolidate its power amid rising political dissent. The opposition, comprising the Janata Party and other regional factions, sought to challenge Congress dominance. Ultimately, the Congress party secured a decisive victory, winning 154 out of 324 seats, reinforcing its influence in Bihar's political landscape and shaping policies for the following term.
