2016 Pathankot attack

The 2016 Pathankot attack was a terrorist assault that occurred on January 2, 2016, at the Pathankot Air Force Station in Punjab, India. The attack was carried out by a group of militants affiliated with the Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) organization. The assailants infiltrated the airbase with the intent to sabotage crucial military infrastructure and inflict casualties on security personnel. The ensuing engagement between Indian security forces and the militants lasted for more than 17 hours, resulting in the deaths of seven Indian soldiers and all six attackers. The incident heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, leading to international condemnation and calls for enhanced security measures in sensitive military areas.
