1962 Rajya Sabha elections

The 1962 Rajya Sabha elections were held in India to fill vacancies in the upper house of Parliament, known as the Rajya Sabha. These elections were conducted in various states between March and April 1962, following the provisions of the Constitution of India. The Rajya Sabha serves as a key legislative body, representing the states and Union territories, and its members are elected by the elected members of the State Legislative Assemblies using a single transferable vote system. In this election cycle, the Indian National Congress emerged as the dominant political force, reinforcing its majority in the Rajya Sabha, which was critical for advancing its legislative agenda during a period marked by significant political and social change in the country.
