2012 Indian anti-corruption movement

The 2012 Indian anti-corruption movement, also known as the India Against Corruption movement, was a nationwide civil society campaign aimed at combating endemic corruption in Indian politics and governance. Triggered by the widespread public outrage over several high-profile corruption scandals, including the 2G spectrum allocation scam and the Commonwealth Games scam, the movement gained significant momentum in early 2011. Led by social activist Anna Hazare, the movement advocated for the introduction of the Jan Lokpal Bill, which sought to establish an independent ombudsman to investigate corruption cases. The movement galvanized millions of citizens, igniting extensive protests and empowering grassroots activism, ultimately influencing debates on governance, transparency, and accountability in India.
