1952 Indian Rajya Sabha elections

The 1952 Indian Rajya Sabha elections were the first elections conducted for the upper house of India's Parliament, following the establishment of the Rajya Sabha under the Constitution of India in 1950. Elections were held in two phases, with the first phase occurring in March and April 1952, and the second phase in July 1952. A total of 228 members were elected to the Rajya Sabha by the elected members of the State Legislative Assemblies and Union territories. These elections marked a significant step in India's democratic process, facilitating representation from various states and regions. The Indian National Congress emerged as the dominant party, securing the majority of seats and shaping the legislative agenda in the early years of independent India.
