2003 Tripura Legislative Assembly election

The 2003 Tripura Legislative Assembly election was held on February 26, 2003, to elect members of the 60-seat Tripura Legislative Assembly in the northeastern state of India. This election was significant as it was contested amid heightened political tensions and a backdrop of insurgency in the region. The main political contest was between the incumbent Left Front, led by the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), and the opposition Indian National Congress (INC). The Left Front, which had been in power since 1993, sought to maintain its dominance, while the INC aimed for a revival after years of electoral setbacks. The election resulted in a decisive victory for the Left Front, securing a substantial majority, which reinforced its longstanding influence in Tripura's political landscape.
