2003 Delhi Legislative Assembly election

The 2003 Delhi Legislative Assembly election was held on November 1, 2003, to elect the 70 members of the Sixth Legislative Assembly of Delhi. This election marked a significant political event in the National Capital Territory, as the incumbent Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) sought to retain power against a backdrop of heightened political competition. The election featured major political parties, including the Indian National Congress (INC) and the newly formed Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which aimed to address issues of governance and service delivery in the capital. The BJP, led by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, campaigned on the platform of development, while INC focused on social welfare programs. The election resulted in a significant victory for the INC, leading to Sheila Dikshit’s tenure as the Chief Minister, which would last over a decade.
