1993 Tripura Legislative Assembly election

The 1993 Tripura Legislative Assembly election was held in Tripura, India, on 27 February 1993, to elect the members of the 7th Tripura Legislative Assembly. This election was significant as it took place in the backdrop of political instability and ethnic tensions within the state. The main contest was between the Indian National Congress (INC) and the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), with the INC seeking to regain power after being ousted in 1988. The CPI(M), leading a Left Front coalition, aimed to retain its influence amid rising local demands for autonomy. The election witnessed a voter turnout of approximately 85%, reflecting the electorate's engagement in the democratic process. Following the polls, the CPI(M) emerged victorious, securing a majority of seats.
