155th Pioneers

The 155th Pioneers, also known as the 155th Indian Pioneer Battalion, were a distinguished engineering unit of the British Indian Army, primarily active during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Formed in 1901, the battalion played a crucial role in various military operations and infrastructure development projects across India, including the construction of railroads, bridges, and fortifications. The unit consisted predominantly of Indian soldiers, reflecting the British Army's reliance on local manpower for engineering capabilities. The 155th Pioneers served notably during World War I, contributing to campaigns in the Middle East and Europe. Following the war, the battalion was disbanded in 1922, leaving a legacy of engineering excellence within the Indian military tradition.
