18th Royal Garhwal Rifles

The 18th Royal Garhwal Rifles was an infantry regiment of the British Indian Army, formed in 1887 and traceable to the early units raised for the East India Company. Renowned for its distinguished service, particularly in World War I and World War II, the regiment gained a reputation for its valiant actions in various theaters, including the Western Front and North Africa. The regiment was primarily composed of soldiers from the Garhwal region of India, known for their tenacity and bravery. In recognition of its exemplary performance, the regiment was awarded the title Royal in 1903. Post-independence, the unit was incorporated into the Indian Army, continuing its legacy with significant contributions to national defense.
