18th Infantry (British Indian Army)

The 18th Infantry, also known as the 18th Royal Garhwal Rifles, was a prominent regiment of the British Indian Army, established in 1858 as part of the Bengal Army. Its origins trace back to the enlistment of Garhwali soldiers from the Garhwal region in northern India. The regiment gained a reputation for its distinguished service in various military campaigns, including both World Wars, and earned numerous battle honors for its contributions in conflicts such as the Second Anglo-Afghan War and the Siege of Kut. Following the end of British colonial rule in India in 1947, the regiment was integrated into the newly formed Indian Army, where it continues to maintain its legacy, reflecting a rich history of valor and discipline.
