The 2012 Indian presidential election was held on July 19, 2012, to elect the 13th President of India, succeeding Pratibha Patil. The election was significant, taking place against a backdrop of political challenges and economic concerns within the country. The contest was primarily between the ruling United Progressive Alliance (UPA) candidate Pranab Mukherjee and the opposition candidate P. A. Sangma.
