2011 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election

The 2011 West Bengal Legislative Assembly election was a pivotal electoral contest held in West Bengal, India, from April 18 to May 10, 2011. This election was conducted to elect members of the 15th West Bengal Legislative Assembly, comprising 294 seats. Marked by a historic political shift, it ended the 34-year-long rule of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)) and the Left Front in the state, which was one of the longest uninterrupted tenures of any political party in India. The Trinamool Congress (TMC), led by Mamata Banerjee, emerged victorious, securing 184 seats and establishing a new government. The election was characterized by high voter turnout and significant regional issues, including land acquisition and governance, reflecting the electorate's demand for change.
