2007 Uttar Pradesh legislative assembly election

The 2007 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election was held in Uttar Pradesh, India, from February 8 to March 8, 2007. This election was conducted to select the 403 members of the 15th Legislative Assembly of Uttar Pradesh. It marked a significant political event, as the state was witnessing a contest primarily between the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) led by Mayawati, the Samajwadi Party (SP) under Mulayam Singh Yadav, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The BSP emerged victorious, winning a decisive majority with 206 seats, enabling Mayawati to become the Chief Minister for a fourth time. The election was characterized by high stakes, extensive campaigning, and issues such as caste dynamics, development, and law and order prominently influencing voter behavior.
