2007 Punjab Legislative Assembly election

The 2007 Punjab Legislative Assembly Election was conducted on February 13, 2007, to elect members of the 13th Assembly of Punjab, India. This election was pivotal as it was held amidst significant political turmoil and public disappointment with the incumbent government, led by the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and its ally, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The Indian National Congress (INC) aimed to reclaim power, capitalizing on anti-incumbency sentiments and issues such as agrarian distress and urban unemployment. The election saw a voter turnout of approximately 78%. Ultimately, the Shiromani Akali Dal emerged victorious, forming the government with Parkash Singh Badal as the Chief Minister, marking a significant consolidation of the party's influence in the state.
