2001 Census of India

The 2001 Census of India, conducted from March 9 to March 28, 2001, marked the 14th national census since 1871 and was the first to be held in the 21st century. Under the aegis of the Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, India, the census aimed to collect comprehensive demographic, social, and economic data from the country's diverse population. With a total population of approximately 1.03 billion, the census revealed significant trends, including a population growth rate of 21.34% since the previous decade, a decreasing sex ratio, and varying literacy rates across states. The data collected has been pivotal for policymaking, urban planning, and resource allocation in India.
