1st Lok Sabha

The 1st Lok Sabha of India was the lower house of Parliament established following the general elections of 1952, the first after India gained independence in 1947. Comprising 500 elected members, it convened for the first time on March 17, 1952, and played a crucial role in shaping the nascent Indian democracy. The Lok Sabha was constituted under the provisions of the Constitution of India, and its members served a term of five years. The Indian National Congress, led by Jawaharlal Nehru, emerged as the dominant party, securing a significant majority. The 1st Lok Sabha was instrumental in passing key legislation and addressing various socio-economic issues during a pivotal period of nation-building, setting the foundation for future parliamentary proceedings in India.
