17th Dogra Regiment

The 17th Dogra Regiment is an infantry regiment of the Indian Army, established in the late 19th century as part of the British Indian Army. Originally raised in 1857 during the Indian Rebellion, the regiment was formally constituted in 1888, drawing personnel predominantly from the Dogra community of the Jammu region. The regiment has a distinguished history, participating in various military campaigns, including World War I and World War II. Known for its mountain warfare expertise, the 17th Dogra Regiment has been actively engaged in numerous operations post-independence, including in Jammu and Kashmir. The regiment is recognized for its valor, with numerous battle honors and gallantry awards to its name, reflecting its enduring legacy within the Indian military framework.
