1990 airlift of Indians from Kuwait

The 1990 airlift of Indians from Kuwait, also known as Operation Safe Homecoming, was a significant humanitarian operation conducted by the Government of India in response to the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in August 1990. Approximately 170,000 Indian nationals, predominantly laborers and expatriates, were stranded in Kuwait amidst escalating hostilities and ensuing conflict. In a coordinated effort involving the Indian Air Force and commercial airlines, the operation commenced on August 13, 1990, and continued until October 1990, successfully repatriating citizens to India. The airlift is recognized as one of the largest civilian repatriation efforts in history and highlighted the Indian government's commitment to safeguarding its citizens abroad during crises.
