2016 Uri terror attack

The 2016 Uri terror attack occurred on September 18, 2016, in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir, India, targeting an Indian Army base. In this heinous assault, four heavily armed militants, purportedly affiliated with Pakistan-based terrorist organization Jaish-e-Mohammed, infiltrated the base and launched a coordinated attack, resulting in the deaths of 19 Indian soldiers and significant injuries to others. The incident marked one of the deadliest attacks on Indian security forces in the region in over a decade. The attack heightened tensions between India and Pakistan, leading to India's subsequent cross-border surgical strikes against militant launch pads in Pakistan-administered Kashmir, illustrating escalated hostilities in the long-standing India-Pakistan conflict.
