2015 South Indian floods

The 2015 South Indian floods were a series of catastrophic floods that primarily impacted the state of Tamil Nadu, India, during November and December 2015. Triggered by the intense northeast monsoon, these floods led to the heaviest rainfall in the region in over a century, with Chennai, the state's capital, receiving more than 1,000 mm (39 in) of rainfall within a span of just a few days. The deluge caused widespread devastation, displacing over a million people and resulting in approximately 500 fatalities. In addition to human suffering, the floods caused significant damage to infrastructure, homes, and agriculture, leading to an estimated economic loss of billions of dollars. The government's response included relief efforts, evacuations, and extensive aid from both domestic and international organizations.
