2011 Assam Legislative Assembly election

The 2011 Assam Legislative Assembly election was conducted in two phases on April 4 and April 11, 2011, to elect members of the 126-seat Assam Legislative Assembly in the northeastern state of India. This election was significant as it followed the end of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government's tenure in the state, facing strong opposition from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and regional parties like the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and the Bodoland Peoples' Front (BPF). The election witnessed a voter turnout of approximately 77%, reflecting robust electoral participation. The results, announced on May 13, 2011, reaffirmed the Congress party's dominance in Assam, securing a decisive victory under the leadership of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi, who was re-elected for a third consecutive term.
