2004 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election

The 2004 Maharashtra Legislative Assembly election was held in the Indian state of Maharashtra on October 13, 2004, to elect 288 members of the Legislative Assembly. This election was conducted simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections in the country. The Indian National Congress (INC), in alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), emerged victorious, securing a combined total of 142 seats. The coalition formed the government with Vilasrao Deshmukh as the Chief Minister. The election was significant due to the backdrop of the 2004 general elections, where political dynamics saw a shift in regional power. Voter turnout was approximately 59%, reflecting a competitive political landscape marked by the challenges of governance and socio-economic issues in Maharashtra.
