1996 Charkhi Dadri mid-air collision

The Charkhi Dadri mid-air collision, which occurred on November 12, 1996, is one of the deadliest aviation disasters in Indian history. The incident involved two commercial airliners, Saudi Arabian Airlines Flight 763, a Boeing 747-100, and Kazakhstan Airlines Flight 1907, an Ilyushin Il-76, colliding in mid-air near Charkhi Dadri, Haryana. The collision resulted in the loss of all 349 people on board both aircraft, marking it as the worst aviation accident involving two airliners in terms of fatalities. Contributing factors included inadequate air traffic control coordination and poor visibility conditions. The disaster prompted significant changes in air traffic management and aviation safety regulations in India and worldwide.
